I have never been a huge fan of jar salsa. The texture was just never quite right and don’t even get me started on some of the preservatives and just plain JUNK they are slipping into our food in the form of ‘natural flavors.” ICK.
This homemade salsa tastes SO fresh and has quickly become another family favorite and it is requested at every taco night. The best part is, it’s so simple we almost feel silly sharing it as a recipe! But we think this will make you want to skip the jar salsa next time and opt for fresh!
We always love testing our recipes on family and friends and this was a big hit. It has already been requested as “…that one really bomb salsa you make.”

Favorite Simple Homemade Salsa
| Ingredients |
- 1 14.5 OZ CAN Muir Glen Organic Diced tomatoes RIRE ROASTED ***
- 1 4 OZ CAN Canned diced Organic Green Chilis (Spice level to preferred taste)
- 1/2 medium white onion
- 1 TSP salt (*Redmond REAL Salt)
- 1 HEAD cilantro *
- 2 limes, juiced
- 1 TSP salt
- 1 TBSP cumin
- 1.5 TBSP Granulated Garlic powder
- 1 TBSP chili powder
- 1 TBSP ground black pepper
- 4-6 chili piquin peppers * In our opinion this is the secret weapon!
- OPTIONAL : fresh jalapeño or serrano pepper *
*** Muir tomatoes are really our favorite and are available at almost every local grocery store
* Cilantro is something many chefs will say you need to remove the leaves from the stems before throwing into your blender…my husband doesn’t because he prefers the taste! He chops off the bottom ends of the cilantro where there are no leaves, usually about the bottom 1/3. I will be honest, I don’t taste the difference and the time saving is a win for us.
*Chili piquin peppers * gives the salsa a great flavor but also a kick! Add just a few if you want just a small amount of spice, adjust according to your taste.
* Another option is to add fresh jalapeño or serrano pepper for an extra flavor/spice!

- Combine all ingredients into blender ( You can chop larger onion down in size for easier blending)
- Only pulse until everything is combined, try not to puree. We like a little bit of salsa texture to it!
- Taste test! We always taste test to see if we want more salt or spice and SERVE!
- TADA!! We told you that one was super simple! 😉
