After realizing how much garbage and preservatives there were in our food, we were on a mission to cut out as much junk as possible. Store bought tortillas were on the list for the first things to go and although it took a few tries to get his recipe perfect, we are now obsessed!
We have made large batches and brought them to dinner parties, they are always a hit! People will even eat them plain! These are a family favorite now and the kids beg to make them.

Our Family Homemade Flour Tortillas
| Ingredients |
- 450g | 3 CUPS Unbleached All Purpose Flour (Bob’s Red Mill Organic)
- 1 TSP Salt (Redmond REAL Salt)
- 1 TSP baking powder
- 100g | 1/2 CUP Butter or Lard
- I CUP *boiling water
| Process |
- Add ingredients into large mixing bowl Sift flour into bowl.
- Add salt + baking powder
- Add butter/lard and blend until mixture is crumbly.
- Boil water *Water needs to be BOILING in order for this to work correctly
- Add water slowly while mixing. *If you do this by hand, make sure to use temperature safe gloves because the water is boiling hot!
- Kneed until completely combined for at least 5-10 minutes
- Cover and let sit for 20 minutes
- Using kitchen scale, divide dough into even rounds
- Roll out into desired size using an arching motion with your rolling pin.
- Cook on preheated cast iron skillet for roughly 10 seconds on each side depending on your ovens heat levels.
- Put immediately into tortilla holder to preserve warmth and keep them fresh until dinner is served!
